Read Across America 2022 - Suggested Reading From The Sunmark Squad

Read Across America annually brings the joys of reading to all ages and a child’s ability to read has a direct effect on their future success. Reading with your child helps to increase their vocabulary and improves their reading fluency and comprehension. We encourage EVERYONE to pick up a book and read to a child. Whether it’s a beloved classic or something new and exciting, we encourage you to spread the joy of reading.

In celebration of 'Read Across America Day', we asked the Sunmark Squad to share a favorite book from their childhood or one that they are reading with their children.

We have also included links to the most popular titles in Sunmark's eBook library. From budgeting, tips on how do you stay safe in today's digital world, dining on a budget, to even a book just for teens, we are sure you will find a title to enjoy.

Favorite Titles From the sunmark squad:

Atoya R. - "The Loin The Witch and the Wardrobe" by C.S Lewis

Kristina T. "Mouse Paint." I was obsessed lol! It was the first book I learned to read on my own and the book I used to teach my sister to read.

Erin F. - I loved the "Frances the Badger" series, but my favorite book was "A Bargain for Frances."

Jennifer L. "The Monster at the End of This Book."  I still LOVE this book.

Marissa L. "The Giving Tree." One of my favorites!

Sebrina G. - "There's a Witch Under the Stairs" by Maggie Smith. My childhood friend introduced me to the book and would read it to me all the time (I was 3 and she was 5 when we met). We read it together constantly until the book fell apart in middle school. I still love it to this day!

Azra K. - A little grotesque, but the "Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark" series! These books always take me back to elementary and middle school library days.

Jen D.- "The Rainbow Fish."

Allison M. - Junie B. Jones was my FAVORITE. Also, the "Little Critter" books bring me right back to being a kid!

Kevin D. - "Series of Unfortunate Events" (Lemony Snicket)

Draya K. Let's not forget "Goodnight Moon!"

Brittney C. - I read the "Babysitters Club" books back in the '80s, those were fun. I loved the "Roll of Thunder" series by Mildred Taylor.  I always loved to read whatever we had to in school, it was my favorite subject!
I read my son "On the Night You Were Born" on the night he was born in the hospital and it still makes me tear up.

Amber C. - I loved the "Little House on the Prairie" series when I was a kid - I wanted to be just like Laura Ingalls! In fact, I saved the entire series to pass along to my daughter... she's finally getting old enough to enjoy them too.

And I am with Brittney, I read my son "On the Night You Were Born" all the time when he was little - that story still brings tears to my eyes!

Joe M. - "The Polar Express" Even though it's a Christmas book, it's still one of my all-time favorites. Outside of children's books, I used to love R.L Stine's books!
