Summer of Kindness Project 7: Helping Pets Find a HomeThroughout the past several months, the Sunmark Charitable Community Foundation and Beekman 1802 have been celebrating a “Summer of Kindness” – bringing to life children’s ideas of how they would spread kindness in their community. To date, six Kindness Projects have been already been completed, including Ice Cream for Teachers, a Family Fun Night, Bike Helmets for Kids, Community Garden Donations, and Kona Ice for Nursing Home Residents. On Wednesday, August 25, the Kindness Crew joined together with the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society to help students from Schalmont School District fulfill another Kindness Project. After having spent the school year reading virtually to shelter and therapy dogs, students from Ms. Pinks’ first grade class wanted to help more dogs find loving forever homes. The students starred in and helped create a video, “How to Convince Your Parents You’re Ready for a Pet!”, which will provide education to potential adoptee families with a fun twist. More Summer of Kindness projects are still to come and will include such ideas as a donation to the Hardship Fund at the Guilderland Rescue Squad and a park refresh in Peekskill. Would your child like to spread kindness this summer? The Sunmark Charitable Community Foundation and Beekman 1802 are inviting children to “deposit kindness” by submitting their ideas on how they would spread kindness where they live. Kindness forms are available at any Sunmark Credit Union location, or online at www.sunmark.org/kindness. Children are invited to deposit their ideas into the Beekman 1802 goat banks located at any Sunmark branch, or via email at kindness@sunmark.org.
